Student Zones
Los Angeles, CA 2013
Funded by The Library Foundation of Los Angeles, Student Zones serve as a valuable service provided by the Los Angeles Public Library, offering furniture, computers, and trained personnel to assist students academically after school. Our involvement in this project encompassed creating the spatial concept, architectural elements, environmental graphics, and furniture design.
The Quad,' a clever play on the quadrangle commonly found on college campuses and the four-sided polygon. The core idea behind the design was straightforward: to encourage more student participation in the program, the space needed to be perceived as cool and inviting. Despite budget constraints, our studio devised a "kit of parts" strategy, providing each branch with the same items arranged in diverse ways to suit the context of each location. Some furniture pieces, including tables and sofas, were custom-designed for the space.
